Journey to be Fit – Hydration, How much is enough?

Drinking water is often misunderstood. 8 to 10 glasses of water a day is not to be confused with 8 to 10 glasses of liquid a day, i.e.: coffee, juice, energy drinks, etc… All of which come with a significant amount of calories and can even DE-hydrate you! An average person should drink 8 to 10 (80 to 100 ounces) of water/day. In addition to any other liquids consumed. (Even more if alcohol is also consumed).

Don’t Drink calories! A 20 oz Cola is approximately 240 calories. If you have three in 24 hours, you are blowing your calorie intake for the day! Instead, drink 3 sparkling waters, which have 0 calories! Many new sparking water brands have great new flavors, like Polar: Products – Polar Beverages. In addition you can add natural flavors to your water as simple as Lemons or Limes! If your looking for an energy boost, you can also try a Pre Workout like Number 1 Nutrition’s Switched On: Switched On – Lemon-Aid – Pre Workout – Number 1 Nutrition which will also help give mental focus! There are also other items such as Branch Chain Amino Acids which will help aid in recovery from running, working out etc…:#1 BCAA (Watermelon) – Number 1 Nutrition.

We often confuse hunger with thirst, try drinking more water the next time you feel hungry. One of my favorite hacks is to start my day with 20 ounces of water first thing in the morning. The body is somewhat dehydrated from a good nights sleep. By doing so, it gets a good part of the quota out of the way for the day. Most people will also begin to look and feel better through their appearance and energy levels after drinking the right amount water on a regular basis. Try it for yourself and see, you’re gonna look good!

Try using a 20 oz reusable container and filling it 5 times a day. This will hit the 100 oz goal, there will likely be less calorie intake and you will feel much better! If plain water isn’t your thing, try adding lemon or other low calorie supplements like BCAA’s or even drink seltzer water, just make sure it is zero calories, zero sugar. The carbonation will also help with feeling full. So have a nice glass of water, Cheers!
